The Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, as apartner of the "DIMYMYDI Digital Mythologies - Mythical Digitalities"project, organized the 4th Multiplier Event at their academy on the 29th of February 2024. The DIMYMYDI Seminar called Digital Literacy in Art Educationaimed to highlight the tension between traditional teaching methods and theever-changing digital landscape. Through a series of lectures, we explored howdigital tools can enhance art education by fostering a comprehensive artisticecosystem—one where digital technologies can be manipulated and their profoundimpacts on both the arts and society critically explored.
The evening kicked off with an introduction tothe Erasmus+ project DIMYMYDI by Tarja Nieminen and Gerard Fox. This wasfollowed by a lecture by Kristi Fekete, who discussed digital intimacy and itsimpact on artistic expression from a feminist perspective. During the lecture,Kristi shared her personal experience of situating oneself within digitalresearch and how situated knowledge can help anchor artistic practice. Borisvan den Eynden and Lieven Van Speybroeck captivated the audience with their presentationon a series of assignments focusing on the imagination of "electronictrainee devices." Their presentation showcased the boundless creativepossibilities that emerge when art intersects with technology and AI. JannaBeck and Annelise Cerchedean launched their latest publication titled Framed.This flipbook, accompanied by a digital counterpart created by FrankieFrrrankie (ANH LE) and KristĂ Fekete, was published by Track Report of theRoyal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp.
A key highlight of the evening was thepresentation of the students' works created during the DIMYMYDI workshops. Theresults of all five workshops were showcased to the public attending theMultiplier Event. These projects were presented on a large projected screenthat spanned the entire venue, creating an immersive experience anddemonstrating the students' creative engagement with the themes of the project.
